now demo
Recently, I finished creating demo version of a game. After completing it, I made a demo version for my diploma. I still had to do the branding and create a website.
I started creating the game in September, made many versions, and changed the game's setting multiple times, which affected the development time. It's a separate adventure when you don't even know what you want to create, but you're making something. I settled on the fantasy genre and setting. The main mechanic is resource gathering. I couldn't decide how to make the game unique, so I decided to combine Terraria with the roguelike genre. In short:
You appear in a world where a village is destroyed, and you must rebuild it. To rebuild, you need various resources, which are found in different locations. The locations are always randomly generated. For variety, I changed the standard game limitations and allowed players to heal infinitely. You'll understand during the game. The most challenging part was implementing the save system, and I did what I could for the demonstration.
As for the demo version, I added new biomes, music, and new enemies to enhance the experience.
During the creation process, I was inspired by various projects such as Mario, Terraria, Shrek, and Minecraft. You can even find Shrek during the game.
I am also thinking about future updates, but they may not come soon because the project is developed by just one person, and that's me, d4v1dovv.
What else can I say? Creating a game for my diploma was a fun adventure when you're studying web design but end up creating a game.
